Withholding the food is done to give the stomach a chance to rest. Vomiting and diarrhea can result to dehydration thus the pet's water bowl must always be filled. Drinking can worsen the pain being felt by the pet thus it would refuse to drink. The pet must be encouraged to drink water to replenish the fluids lost through diarrhea and vomiting. Encourage the dog to lick ice cubes instead. After the fasting period, the pet can now be given small amount of easy to digest food like boiled chicken and rice.
