Government Grants for Debt Relief: Too Good to Be True?
The government does not offer grant money to people who need to pay off their debts, no matter what you may have heard. federal debt relief grants are not one of the many sources of funding available. A lot of the companies offering ways to legally get out of debt are really offering bankruptcy services. Bankruptcies are handled by the government, but debt grants are not. {The government may not offer grants to pay off debts, but they do handle bankruptcy matters.}
There are programs out there that can help with student loans and people facing foreclosure. However, there are strict guidelines for these programs, and they are not considered debt relief grants from the government. The government can also forgive federal loans, but again, these are not debt relief grants from the government .
The government recognizes that some people need bankruptcy in order to restart their lives, although the government does not recommend bankruptcy. Some advertisements claim that debt relief grants from the government are the solution, but the reality is that only bankruptcy allows them to start over.
How Bankruptcy Has Changed
Unfortunately, so many people have abused bankruptcy laws that the government has had to tighten bankruptcy regulations. For example, anyone being considered for bankruptcy must go through credit counseling first. Once again, the companies youíve seen offering help with debt relief grants from the government are probably offering bankruptcy services.
You are not limited to filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy for debt relief from the governmetn. Chapter 13 bankruptcy requires you to continue making payments to your creditors and have the debts paid off within a specified time frame. This happens only if you are able to meet the payment amounts set by a court trustee.
Neither Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy are debt relief grants from the government. In fact, those that file Chapter 7 have to liquidate all their property in order to make additional payments to their creditors. If you go with Chapter 13, you get to keep your property as long as you make the court appointment payments.
Most people get into debt because of overspending. Frequently Asked Questions...
Do you have a disaster relief/emergency kit?
Please tell us:
A. Where you live
B. What type of emergency/natural disaster you are most worried about
C. What is in your kit?
Thanks! I've been thinking about putting one together. I've always heard about other people having them, but now that I have two small children, I guess it's time =)
Answer:
I live in Utah
In Utah they're always saying that there is going to a huge earthquake, so I think that's probably what I'm most worried about.
I have two 72 hour kits (one for me and one for my husband) that have water, food (i.e. MRE's, dry pack food), glowsticks, waterproof matches, granola, a blanket, candles, toothpaste, toothbrush, a flashlight, batteries, and snacks that we both will actually want to eat. We also have a fire in a can. You can visit beprepared.com. They have a bunch of emergency preparedness stuff for pretty good prices.
