water is not viscous enough to feel good on the eye. it would need to be thicker & slipperier, plus its the wrong pH. thats why it stings.
original visine is not good for you. its a potent vasoconstrictor. the package insert states do not use over 10 days. but "visine for contacts" & "visine tears" are fine for every day use.
if water felt great on your eyes...why would anyone ever buy any tears/eyedrops? unlikely that water caused any "damage" tho.
